Protecting Research: A Conversation on CUI and Data Governance

Join KU Innovation Park for a Lunch and Learn exploring Controlled Unclassified Information (CUI) and data governance—key topics for anyone working with federal grants or research partnerships. This event will be on Wednesday, November 12, at 11:45 a.m. in the Chamber Room at 2029 Becker Drive, the Park’s Main Facility.
This discussion will feature Carl Taylor, former Chief Security Officer at the University of Kansas, and Michael Hulet, Facility Security Officer with KU’s Office of Research. Together, they’ll share practical insights on how to manage sensitive research data, meet federal compliance standards, and strengthen information security across collaborative projects.
You’ll learn:
– What CUI is and why it’s critical for research institutions
– How data governance impacts federal funding eligibility
– Best practices to keep information secure and compliant
Bring your questions and join the conversation. Lunch will be provided, but please RSVP so we have an accurate headcount.
