KU, FBI CYBERSECURITY CONFERENCE RETURNS
The FBI and KU Cybersecurity Conference is set for April 3-4 at the Memorial Union on campus. This conference brings together experts in cybersecurity from around the country.
- Sessions will include keynotes from FBI and industry executive leadership.
- Hear from top KU researchers on the latest cybersecurity research, including resiliency, trust and disinformation.
- Learn best practices from a panel of industry and government leaders.
Click here to register for one or both days. At last year’s conference, Sen. Jerry Moran announced a $22 million grant for the Park to build Phase IV.
ICYMI: RECORD HIGH RESEARCH AT KU
Last week, the University of Kansas announced record-setting research and development expenditures – $546.1 million in fiscal year 2024. That’s a 17% increase year-over-year and the ninth consecutive year of research growth for KU.
Why it matters: That spending benefits Kansans while fueling the state economy.
- Last year alone, research spending at KU supported the salaries of 5,595 people.
- KU spent $86.5 million in 91 Kansas counties on research-related goods and services.
- Research funded included projects to develop treatments for Parkinson’s and Alzheimer’s, improve natural disaster resistance of housing, optimize missile-defense radars, and build capacity to produce STEM teachers, among others.
- KU ranked 47th among public universities for research and development expenditures and 53rd among public universities for federally funded R&D.

PARK ADDS NEW BOARD MEMBERS
The Park recently added three board members and thanked two long-standing members for their invaluable service. Joining the board are:

- Mark Shiflett, Ph.D., P.E. – Co-founder & CSO, Icorium Engineering & Distinguished Foundation Professor, KU School of Engineering
- Steven Stites, M.D., F.A.C.P., F.A.A.C.P – Executive Vice President, Clinical Affairs & Chief Medical Officer, KU Medical Center
The KU Innovation Park team would like to thank Dr. Val Stella, Dr. Robert Simari and Bob Johnson for their service on the board. Stella and Johnson have been involved with the Park since its inception in their respective roles at KU and the Douglas County Commission. Their board terms concluded at the end of 2024.
