Kansas launches SBIR/STTR matching program
Kansas Commerce will now match SBIR and STTR awards earned by entrepreneurs in the state. This new initiative will help Kansas innovators, entrepreneurs and researchers compete and win in the national innovation arena.
- The state will offer support for Phase 0 and matching funds for Phase I.
- Phase 0 includes support to craft a winning federal proposal with expert coaching, technical review, and up to $3,000 in proposal development funding (50% match).
- After earning a Phase I award, the state will provide up to $25,000 in matching funds.
KU Innovation Park will host an in-person information session with Kansas Commerce leaders on Wednesday, November 19, at 10:30 a.m. in the Phase III auditorium, located at 2033 Becker Drive. We hope you can join us to learn more about this exciting new opportunity with our partners at Kansas Commerce!

Oread Angels host fourth pitch event
Members of the Oread Angel Investors gathered in historic Allen Fieldhouse for a fall pitch event featuring three companies with ties to the University of Kansas on the Friday before the Dillons Sunflower Showdown. The group was welcomed with a happy hour at the Jayhawk Welcome Center the night before. After the pitches, the group experienced a fireside chat with KU alumni and Ripple CEO Brad Garlinghouse, heard some angel investor insights from Chris Simpson of Polsinelli, and ended the day with a tour of the new David Booth Kansas Memorial Stadium.
The featured companies were:
- Ideem, a B2B SaaS platform that makes two-factor authentication easy and invisible for everyone, all the time.
- Likarda, a biotech company that customizes formulations to deliver complex drugs, enhancing their function and safety (and also a Park graduate).
- Fukui Labs, whose Bottega platform allows content creators to turn their ideas into ownable and monetizable IP through blockchain technology, and was founded by former KU basketball player Landen Lucas.
Interested in joining as an angel or pitching to this group of Jayhawks? Apply for either opportunity here.
