Ideem closes $2.4M seed round
Ideem, a company that pitched at the first Oread Angel Investors event last fall, announced a $2.4 million seed round backed by several groups and strategic angels.
- Ideem is a platform meant to make two-factor authentication easy and invisible.
- Ideem’s four co-founders all have startup experience, and two have degrees from KU, leading to the connection to the Oread Angels.
- The team will use the funding to scale partnerships, expand into more high-growth markets, and continue improving its software.

Get Rock Chalk Ready with new program
Jayhawk innovators can now get their ideas Rock Chalk Ready with a new program from the KU Office of Research and the KU Center for Technology Commercialization.
- The Rock Chalk Ready program provides grant funding for pre-company opportunities at KU and KU Med Center to help de-risk the venture.
- You must be an employee of KU or KUMC and want to advance a technology or discovery resulting from research activities.

Applications for the 2025 cohort are due by May 9.
Share your (art)work with BioNexus KC
BioNexus KC wants to see your science! The Science2Art program is now accepting submissions through June 7.
- The Science2Art program showcases research and data as art.
- Selected pieces will be professionally curated and featured in an exhibition.
- Pieces are then auctioned off to help fund STEAM education across the KC region.

ICYMI: KU ranks 37th in patents by public universities
The University of Kansas ranks 37th among public institutions in the latest edition of the Top 100 U.S. Universities Granted Utility Patents in 2024, published by the National Academy of Inventors.
- The U.S. Patent & Trademark Office granted KU 36 utility patents in 2024.
- “KU’s continued recognition by NAI in its list of the Top 100 Universities Granted Utility Patents is a testament to the university’s prioritization of innovation,” said Clifford Michaels, executive director of the KU Center for Technology Commercialization.
- KU was 94th in 2023 and 65th in 2022, the first year for the report.
