SBIR/STTR programs are back!
Earlier this month, the Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) and Small Business Technology Transfer (STTR) programs were reauthorized through 2031. That means the country’s largest pool of non-dilutive, early-stage funding is back, with a few changes.
- Here’s a good recap of the key provisions, including national security reviews, due diligence, and a new Strategic Breakthrough Allocation program.
- May 12-14 is America’s Seed Fund week and features a free, virtual event connecting entrepreneurs with R&D funding. Register here.
While funding opportunities may be slow to return, the SBA announced some current and upcoming options.
- Department of War (formerly the Department of Defense) shared open and close dates for its SBIR program.
- There are open topics for the Army, the Air Force and Space Force, and the Navy.
- The National Institutes of Health shared a forecast of Notices of Funding Opportunities (NOFOs) to help researchers prepare for potential funding areas.
- The NASA SBIR/STTR program is transitioning from its traditional solicitation cycle to a Broad Agency Announcement, which allows it to release Phase I subtopics for SBIR, STTR, and SBIR Ignite across multiple appendices throughout the year.
