Big Check Incoming
The Park was recently selected to implement the ACCEL-KS program by the Kansas Department of Commerce. ACCEL-KS will provide proof-of-concept funds to startups across the state to fast-track innovation and support entrepreneurs in getting their discoveries to market.
And we’re gonna get a big check. Literally. Join us for a celebration featuring the Department of Commerce on Monday, September 8, at 9:30 a.m. Please let us know you’re coming so we have enough pastries!
Rock Chalk Ready
Congrats to the inaugural selections for the new Rock Chalk Ready program! These six innovators will have their research projects funded up to $35,000 to help de-risk technologies and business concepts, positioning them for commercialization success.
- Alan Allgeier – Technologies to Enhance Corn Oil Extraction During Ethanol Production. Allgeier is a professor of chemical & petroleum engineering.
- Michael Hageman – Prodrug Formulations for Oral Testosterone Replacement Therapy. Hageman is the Valentino J. Stella Distinguished Professor of Pharmaceutical Chemistry.
- Divya Kamath – A Novel Therapeutic for Multiple Sclerosis. Kamath is a research assistant professor of cancer biology.
- Simon Patton – A Medical Device for Improved Hysterectomy Surgeries. Patton is a clinical assistant professor of obstetrics & gynecology.
- Shyam Sathyamoorthi – Antifungal and Antibacterial Agents for Industrial Agricultural Use. Sathyamoorthi is an associate professor of medicinal chemistry.
- Mark Shiflett – Novel Acids for Use in the Fuel and Detergent Industries. Shiflett is a Foundation Distinguished Professor of Chemical & Petroleum Engineering.
KUIP NAMED EXCEPTIONAL INTERNSHIP SITE
KU Innovation Park was named as the Exceptional Internship Site at the 2025 Exceptional Awards, presented by the KU School of Business EY Business Professional Development Program. The Park was nominated by summer analyst Calvin Schenk, who enjoyed his work so much that he added another major to his school workload.
- “The environment of this internship was both empowering and supportive,” Calvin wrote in his nomination. “It exceeded every goal and expectation I could even have for an internship experience.”
