2025 felt like a year on fast-forward at KU Innovation Park! New companies entered the Park ecosystem, new capital and angel investments sparked growth, and expanding programs pulled more innovators into the pipeline. From breakthrough research to statewide partnerships that broaden the Park’s reach, the team spent the year turning possibility into progress.
Here’s a look at the Park’s 2025 in review.
Top Stories of 2025
- The Oread Angel Investors network hit the ground running, and in January, it was announced that $570,000 in angel funding had been invested after the first pitch event in fall 2024.
- The Park welcomed a new Lab2Market cohort, bringing together KU researchers to learn how to advance university discoveries into market-ready ventures. Meet the researchers and learn about their work.
- Kansas Commerce selected the Park as one of just two organizations to implement its new ACCEL-KS proof-of-concept program, designed to help early-stage Kansas innovators validate technologies, build prototypes and move toward commercialization.
- An independent study by Lightcast measured the Park’s annual economic impact during FY 22-23 at $136.5 million – a clear signal that the combination of early-stage innovation and established industry delivers a tangible return to Douglas County.
By the Numbers
- The Park and its companies helped bring in more than $12 million in fresh capital into the region.
- The Park organized and hosted nine free lunch-and-learn events, bringing 425 people into our facilities. Topics ranged from sports tech and exporting to AI ownership and non-human music generation.
- The Park hosted three SBIR/STTR boot camps throughout the year, supporting 40 research teams seeking federal funding.
- The Oread Angels held three pitch events, including one virtual event, and hit 100 members who have invested over $795,000 total in KU-connected companies.
- The Park’s professional staff were invited to speak 20 times throughout the year, sharing insights on economic development, innovation, and entrepreneurship.
- Park-founded company, Continuum Ed Tech, hosted researchers from four states in Lawrence to culminate a virtual cohort learning how to translate their work to market. Three teams have earned over $1 million in SBIR/STTR funding since completing the program.
Thank you to the companies, researchers, partners, speakers, and supporters who made 2025 a year of real momentum at KU Innovation Park. With a strong foundation in place, 2026 will be about scaling what works and pushing innovation further. The future is active, collaborative, and already underway.
